When You Need Lasting Peace and Solid Hope

 Which one should I choose?

Back and forth I went on Sunday night, wondering.

Who would get my vote?

Who would win?

Who would lose?

I was kind of beside myself with the choice set before me. I could choose only one!

So, I chose to watch the debate instead of the Packers. Nearly killed me. For one, because I’m more than kind of a Packers fan. I’m one of those nuts who will don my #12 Rodgers jersey even in the privacy of my own home because I’m hopelessly devoted, you know? And worse, I’ve been known to dress up our Yellow Lab and our Yorkie in their Packers jerseys as well and make them pose for pictures.  Or catching them asleep in their shirts during a game.

So why did I sideline my beloved Packers for a mud-slinging, character-slamming, ego-puffing spectacle far worse than any World Wrestling Federation match ever broadcast? (Please don’t pass up clicking here to see a splendid shot!)

I suppose I chose the debate because I not only wanted to hear what both (un)presidential candidates would say but also how they would say it. To me, character matters. Sadly, I was not surprised by either candidate. Both glass-housed individuals have an ample arsenal of stones to throw at the despicable behavior of each other.

And we, the watching of the verbal stoning? Well, we are tempted to pick up our own rocks of self-righteousness and hurl them not just at screens but at anyone who dares challenge our choices.

I’m tempted to throw up hands in defeat. Wring them in angst.

But I will not succumb, letting the demons of disheartening word, thought, and deed steal my peace.

Because here’s the truth . . .

Our peace has nothing to do with who wins in the up-coming election.

Our PEACE is based on where our HOPE is sure.

Nations rise and fall.  People come and go. Life and elections don’t always turn out the way we want.

But there is a solid hope that never changes through the ages. There is a perfect peace we are able to have and hold no matter what, for all time.

Our peace is Jesus. Our hope is Christ.

Because Jesus Christ is not an ideology or a political party. He’s a real flesh-and-blood reality, Son of God, Savior of the world, living still, coming again.

And while we wait for the best of times, we can work and rest in peace during THIS time.

His kingdom is coming and is already here, in part, because the ELECTED are already here.

We who place our faith in Jesus and His ways are the ELECTED. We have been ELECTED to LOVE in thought, word, and deed—no matter what.

We have been ELECTED to stand firm in TRUTH that never changes according to the fashion of the ages—no matter what.

We have been ELECTED to keep our eyes fixed on the One and Only—Jesus—who leads us along the Way to everlasting Life—no matter what.

So today, how about we refuse fear. Refuse angst. Refuse negativity. Refuse dark. Refuse dirty. Unless getting dirty means lifting another, helping another.

Let’s show our belief in Hope and Peace by being part of a Revolution that stands firm for Love and Truth defined by God in His word.

Let’s ask our perfectly balanced God to balance all of us also. And let’s keep working.

And if we’re wondering what one little life can do in seemingly desperate times?  The answer is PLENTY!

Make your own list of do-ables. And then DO them.

Let’s not just be hearers of God’s way but doers of God’s way (James 1:22).

Smile at everyone. Say thank-you every chance you get. Do favors. Give sincere compliments. Speak to those who are over-looked. Lean in and listen. Be genuinely interested in others. These are just a few on my list. When I do these things, I’m living my vote for Jesus.

You?

Will Jesus and living life HIS way get your vote today? Every day?

Isn’t it time we elect a deserving leader to the Oval Office of our hearts?

Isn’t it time to let Jesus transform every room of our House to His liking?

Hope in Him.

Live like Him.

We CAN rise above the disheartening din of debacles and debates. We CAN find the Power to propel us away from the fray where people tear each other apart and murder with words.

So while some choose to build their political base and win, win, win, we can remember we’ve already won, won, won when we put undivided faith in Jesus Christ, the world’s one and only Messiah.  And when we get serious about submitting to God’s way of living, we might actually start a real revolution of positive transformation.

This is a call to action.

The Revolution begins with humbled hearts built on The Solid Rock.

Anyone want to join?

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust the sweetest frame

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

When darkness veils His lovely face

I rest on His unchanging grace.

In every high and stormy gale

My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, his covenant, His blood

Support me in the whelming flood.

When all around my soul gives way

He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound

O may I then in Him be found.

Dressed in his righteousness alone

Faultless to stand before the throne.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand

All other ground is sinking sand.

All other ground is sinking sand.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.
